In a shocking case, a five-month-old baby has tragically died after sustaining catastrophic brain injuries at the hands of a man “full of rage.” Thomas Morgan, 29, is accused of murdering baby Jensen-Lee Dougal at the family home in Swansea.

The court heard that Morgan was left alone with Jensen-Lee while the baby’s mother, Jordan Dougal, was at work. However, prosecutors allege that Morgan became angry following an abusive text exchange with an ex-girlfriend and violently shook the infant, causing devastating injuries.

Prosecutor Caroline Rees KC said Morgan’s actions amounted to “deliberate abuse” involving “significant and excessive force.” The court was told that Morgan, who was treated as Jensen-Lee’s stepfather, “seriously abused the trust placed in him” by causing serious harm to the baby while alone with him.

Neighbours in Clydach tried to help after Morgan came out of the house with the lifeless baby in his arms. Jensen-Lee was rushed to the University Hospital Wales in Cardiff, where he suffered a cardiac arrest. Scans revealed extensive brain swelling, injury, and bleeding, with neurosurgeons describing the injuries as “devastating.”

Despite medical intervention, it was felt that any surgical treatment would be futile, and on 31 March, the decision was made to withdraw life support. Tragically, Jensen-Lee passed away in his mother’s arms that evening.

The prosecution alleges that while the “violence reached its peak” at the end of March 2024, there had also been previous incidents where Morgan had inflicted injuries on the baby. The court heard that on 30 March, Morgan had an argument with the mother of his other children, which prosecutors say “flipped a switch” in the defendant, leading to the fatal attack on Jensen-Lee.

Thomas Morgan denies murdering Jensen-Lee Dougal and three counts of causing the baby grievous bodily harm with intent. The trial continues.
