In a shocking turn of events, a man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following an incident during a third-tier football match in Wales. The incident occurred on 17 January during an Ardal North West League game between Trearddur Bay and Porthmadog FC.

According to North Wales Police, a 35-year-old man is currently in custody after a video emerged on social media showing a Trearddur Bay player, Tom Taylor, appearing to elbow a Porthmadog FC player in the face. The police have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and have asked the public not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has also stated that it is aware of the incident and will be reviewing it, as tier-three matches fall under its jurisdiction. Referee Richard Gwyn Edwards did not issue any red cards during the match, which Porthmadog FC won 3-2.

In a statement, Trearddur Bay Football Club acknowledged that the incident should not have occurred and apologised to the opposition player, match officials, supporters, and the wider football community. The club has stated that it will fully cooperate with any external investigations or disciplinary processes.

Porthmadog FC, on the other hand, has emphasised that its primary concern is the welfare and safety of its player, Danny Brookwell, who was concussed and had to leave the field of play. The club has stated that Brookwell is currently recovering at home.

This incident has once again highlighted the need for greater accountability and sportsmanship in grassroots football. As the investigation continues, the wider football community will be watching closely to see how the situation is resolved.
