Former Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as an adviser to Iranian billionaire Sasan Ghandehari. Farage’s attendance, including his pass and hotel costs, were funded by Ghandehari.
Farage, who now leads the Reform UK political party, has long been a vocal critic of the World Economic Forum and its annual gathering of global elites. However, his presence at this year’s event has raised eyebrows, given his new role as an adviser to an Iranian businessman.
Ghandehari, the founder of the Bourse & Bazaar Foundation, a think tank focused on Iran’s economy, invited Farage to Davos to provide strategic advice and insights. The two men have reportedly developed a close working relationship in recent months.
“Nigel Farage brings a unique perspective to the table,” Ghandehari said in a statement. “His understanding of global political dynamics and his ability to navigate complex geopolitical landscapes are invaluable as we work to promote greater economic and cultural exchange between Iran and the West.”
Critics have questioned the appropriateness of Farage’s involvement with an Iranian business leader, given the country’s ongoing human rights abuses and tensions with the UK and other Western nations. However, Farage has defended his decision, stating that he believes engagement and dialogue are the best paths to fostering change.
“While I may not agree with everything the Iranian government does, I believe it’s important to maintain open channels of communication,” Farage said. “My role is to provide strategic advice and guidance, not to endorse any particular political agenda.”
The World Economic Forum has faced growing scrutiny in recent years, with critics accusing it of being out of touch with the concerns of ordinary citizens. Farage’s presence at the event, funded by an Iranian billionaire, is likely to add fuel to these criticisms.
As the global elite gather in Davos to discuss the world’s most pressing issues, the involvement of a controversial figure like Nigel Farage is sure to be a topic of intense debate and discussion.
