A seasoned investment professional has joined forces with an industry veteran to establish a new fund focused on the burgeoning European sports market. Athvance Capital, co-founded by a former JPMorgan investment banker and the ex-managing director of Eurosport, has launched as a dedicated platform to unlock long-term value across the global sports industry.

The new venture aims to capitalise on the rapid growth and evolving landscape of the European sports sector. With an initial focus on the continent, Athvance intends to deploy capital across a range of sports-related businesses and projects, seeking to identify and support promising opportunities.

“The global sports industry presents a wealth of untapped potential, particularly in Europe where fan engagement and commercial development continue to accelerate,” said the fund’s co-founder, a former JPMorgan investment banker who brings extensive experience in the financial services sector. “By leveraging our industry expertise and network, we are confident in our ability to uncover and nurture the most compelling investment prospects.”

Joining the co-founder is the ex-managing director of Eurosport, who will lend his deep understanding of the sports media and entertainment landscape. Together, the duo plans to leverage their complementary skillsets to guide Athvance’s investment strategy and provide strategic guidance to portfolio companies.

“This is an exciting time to be involved in the European sports ecosystem,” the Eurosport veteran commented. “Technological advancements, shifting consumer behaviours and the ongoing professionalisation of sports organisations are creating a wealth of opportunities. Athvance is well-positioned to capitalise on these trends and support the growth of innovative businesses that can reshape the industry.”

Initial capital has already been deployed by Athvance, with the firm confirming an investment in Padel Copa, a fast-growing padel tennis tournament organiser. Padel, a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, has experienced a surge in popularity across Europe in recent years, presenting a compelling investment case for the new fund.

“Padel Copa is a prime example of the type of business we are seeking to partner with – a dynamic, tech-enabled platform that is driving the professionalisation and commercialisation of an emerging sport,” the co-founder explained. “We are excited to leverage our expertise and network to support the company’s continued expansion and help unlock the full potential of the padel market.”

As Athvance embarks on its mission to transform the European sports landscape, industry observers will be closely watching the fund’s progress and its ability to identify and nurture the next generation of sports-related success stories.
