In a heartwarming story, a “lovable giant” Pyrenean mountain dog named Brody has found his forever home after capturing the attention of animal lovers across Europe and the United States.

Brody, who weighs a staggering 10 stone (66 kg), was put up for adoption by the Animal Concern Cumbria charity in December. The charity was overwhelmed with the response, receiving “hundreds” of inquiries and offers to rehome the 6-year-old dog from as far afield as Europe and America.

“We had people from all over Europe and even America offering him a home,” said Lauren Pickthall, the animal rehoming manager at the charity. “It made life easy but also difficult because we had a lot of really solid matches.”

Brody’s new owners, who live in the south of England, came to meet him, took him for a walk and a pub lunch, and ultimately decided he was the perfect fit for their family. Pickthall described them as “the loveliest people” with extensive experience in caring for Brody’s breed.

“His new home has lots of breed experience, he has a dog friend, land to roam around and they’re the loveliest people,” she added. “We’ve had loads of updates and pictures of him enjoying the snow.”

Pyrenean mountain dogs, also known as Great Pyrenees, are a large breed that was originally bred to be livestock guardians, protecting flocks from wolves and bears. They have a thick double coat that requires regular grooming.

At around 6 feet (1.82 m) tall on his hind legs, Brody is certainly an impressive sight. He can also eat more than 2.2 lb (1 kg) of food per day, testament to his size and appetite.

Despite the challenges of finding the right home for such a large and unique dog, the Animal Concern Cumbria charity is thrilled that Brody has found his “forever home.”

“He was a lovely boy, but we’re always glad to see the back of them and get that happy ending – it’s what you work for from the minute they come in,” Pickthall said.
