Clients Left in Limbo
Among those affected is Amy-Jade Hughes, who had been preparing to relocate to Australia with her partner and their two young children. After successfully selling her home in Worksop, Hughes discovered that the firm had failed to settle her outstanding mortgage, despite receiving the sale funds. “We’re now stuck living at my parents’ house with a toddler and a newborn,” she lamented, describing the situation as “devastating” and “stressful.” She now faces the daunting prospect of hiring a new solicitor to retrieve her files and attempt to resolve her mortgage issues, adding yet another layer of financial burden.
Ellie Vaughan and her partner William Mann also fell victim to the firm’s abrupt closure. They had entrusted PM Law with a straightforward remortgaging process but found themselves unable to proceed after the firm ceased trading. “We’re expected to pay over £2,000 a month, which obviously is just not affordable,” Vaughan shared, highlighting the concern of managing two active mortgages on a single property without resolution.

Katie Brown from Staffordshire revealed that the stress from the situation had severe repercussions on her health, leading to the cancellation of a scheduled medical operation due to dangerously high blood pressure. Brown had anticipated receiving keys to her new home but was met with disappointment when the estate agent informed her that the sale could not advance due to PM Law’s failure to transfer funds. She has since sought assistance from a new solicitor, incurring additional costs while still facing her ongoing mortgage and rent obligations.
Micah Williams from Braintree expressed her own urgency, sharing that the delay caused by PM Law’s closure jeopardised her pending property purchase. Her situation has grown critical as she faces the risk of losing a £90,000 deposit if she cannot complete the transaction within ten days.

Approximately 600 employees under the PM Law umbrella were left in the dark about the closure, with many learning of it through notices posted at their workplace.
