As Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola prepares to face his sixth different Manchester United boss in almost a decade, the contrast between the two clubs could not be starker. While chaos continues to reign at Old Trafford, there remains a calmness and serenity on the blue half of Manchester.

Guardiola’s City side, buoyed by a 13-game unbeaten run, will be aiming to secure a league double that would keep them firmly in the hunt for the Premier League title. In contrast, Michael Carrick, the latest man in the Manchester United hot seat, will be hoping to snatch local bragging rights in an otherwise calamitous campaign for the Red Devils.

Guardiola has faced a revolving door of United managers, including the likes of Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, and the recently sacked Ruben Amorim. Despite the constant change at Old Trafford, the Spaniard has remained a constant thorn in United’s side, boasting an impressive record against the club.

The City boss has been heavily backed in the transfer market, with his net spend of around ÂŁ957 million the third-highest in England, behind only United’s ÂŁ1.17 billion and Arsenal’s ÂŁ963 million. This investment has paid dividends, with Guardiola delivering 18 trophies, including six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four Carabao Cups, and the elusive Champions League crown in 2023.

As City continue to operate with a clear identity and playing style, United’s struggle to regain their own identity remains a significant concern. The team Carrick has inherited has kept only two clean sheets in 21 league games this term, and the new boss will consider it a job well done if they can claw out a third.

While United’s woes continue, Guardiola and his rejuvenated City side will be aiming to maintain their dominance in the Manchester derby and keep their Premier League title hopes alive. The Spaniard’s longevity at the Etihad Stadium is a testament to his success, and he will be hoping to further cement his legacy as one of the greatest managers of all time.
