A 27-year-old man from Maryborough, Queensland, has been charged with an unprecedented 596 offences relating to child sexual abuse, following a year-long investigation that has uncovered a disturbing pattern of online grooming and exploitation. The individual, who is set to appear in a Brisbane court today, has been accused of targeting children both within Australia and internationally.
Extensive Investigation Uncovers Disturbing Evidence
The investigation, codenamed Operation Xray Wick, revealed that the accused allegedly maintained a staggering collection of 23,000 photographs and videos on a hard drive. Law enforcement officials have managed to identify 259 child victims so far, with estimates suggesting a total of 459 children may have been exploited.
Police believe the man used a combination of false identities and various online platforms to groom children, primarily aged between seven and 15, over a span of seven years. His activities reportedly took place between 2018 and 2025, during which he created multiple online profiles, posing as both males and females, to manipulate and coerce his victims.
Charges Detail a Pattern of Predatory Behaviour
The charges against the man are extensive. He faces 244 counts related to producing child abuse material disseminated via a carriage service, 163 counts of procuring individuals under the age of 16, and 87 counts of engaging in sexual activity with minors through digital means.
In a troubling statement, Queensland police indicated that the suspect not only groomed his victims but also recorded his interactions with them, meticulously organising the material into folders named for each victim. This methodical approach highlights the calculated nature of his actions and the depth of his exploitation.

Acting Chief Superintendent Denzil Clark of the Queensland Police’s state crime command remarked on the collaborative nature of the investigation, emphasising the roles played by child abuse detectives, digital forensic specialists, and international law enforcement agencies. The breadth of the investigation has demanded significant resources and expertise, particularly given the sheer volume of material involved.
“This is extremely concerning and disturbing offending,” Clark stated. He noted an alarming trend in which children are increasingly being groomed and coerced into sharing sexual images of themselves via popular apps and social media platforms. “The trauma that this causes a child is significant,” he added, urging parents and caregivers to remain vigilant in protecting young people’s online safety.
