A recent robbery at a games shop in Cwmbran has left the owner grappling with substantial losses after a thief made off with £65,000 worth of rare Pokémon cards. Phillip Hobbs, a resident of Adamsdown in Cardiff, used a hammer to break into Badzgaming on 2 February. In addition to the precious Pokémon cards, he also stole £1,700 in cash before escaping on a stolen motorcycle. While law enforcement managed to recover the stolen goods shortly after the incident, many of the cards were damaged during the thief’s hurried getaway, rendering them nearly worthless.
Alex Badham, the owner of Badzgaming, described the loss as a “killer” blow to his business, which had only been operational for four months at the time of the break-in. Badham expressed deep concern, stating that the outcome of his insurance claim would be critical to the future of his shop.

The Pokémon trading card phenomenon, which took the world by storm in the 1990s, has evolved into a lucrative market, with some cards fetching thousands of pounds. Just two days after reopening, Badzgaming fell victim to another attempted break-in. Fortunately, the individual responsible was apprehended quickly, and the stolen items were recovered.
