In a move that has stirred up the British political landscape, the leadership of the Reform UK party has made it clear that they will prioritize their grassroots supporters over “failed former Tory MPs” when selecting parliamentary candidates for the next election.

Zia Ullah, the party’s head of policy, has been vocal in his stance, stating that the party’s loyal supporters who have helped build the “most extraordinary, historic political movement in British history” will be given preference over those former Conservative MPs who have recently joined the party.

The comments come in the wake of the announcement that three more ex-Tory MPs have defected to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK. According to the Telegraph, a total of 20 former Conservative MPs have now joined the party, along with the two Reform MPs originally elected to Parliament as Conservatives.

Ullah’s message, shared on social media, was a direct response to the concerns expressed by the party’s grassroots members. “I’ve had many messages from Reform grassroots worried about former Tory MPs joining our party,” he wrote. “I want to be clear to our Reform grassroots: YOU will be prioritized in candidate selections for our next class of MPs, NOT failed former Tory MPs.”

The decision to prioritize the party’s loyal supporters over the “washed-up” ex-Tories is seen as a strategic move to maintain the party’s identity and appeal to its core base. Reform UK, which was founded by Nigel Farage, has positioned itself as a political force that aims to challenge the establishment and give a voice to those who feel left behind by the traditional parties.

The party’s stance on this issue is likely to be welcomed by its grassroots supporters, who have been instrumental in the party’s growth and success. It remains to be seen how this decision will impact the party’s overall performance in the next election, but it is clear that the Reform UK leadership is determined to keep its focus on the needs and aspirations of its loyal supporters.
