A signalling system fault at St Albans City has led to severe delays of up to 45 minutes on trains running between London St Pancras International and destinations such as Luton. The disruption is expected to last until 4pm today.

East Midlands Railway services between Sheffield, Nottingham and Corby to and from London St Pancras have all been affected, as have Thameslink services between Bedford, East Croydon, Luton and Rainham.

According to National Rail, the trains are being stopped at red signals in each direction, and drivers are being given verbal instructions to continue through the area with the signalling problem. This is taking extra time and leading to congestion and service changes.

Network Rail response staff are investigating the issue as quickly as possible, and progress updates are being monitored. Passengers are advised to check for the latest information before travelling.

Passengers with Flexible or Advance tickets for single-leg trips may be eligible for compensation through the Delay Repay scheme. This can be claimed through the Trainline app or directly with the train operator if the ticket was bought from their website.
