Apple has unveiled a slimmer and lighter iPhone Air alongside its most expensive iPhone model ever – the £1,999 iPhone 17 Pro Max. At the tech giant’s annual “Awe Dropping” event in California, CEO Tim Cook presented the company’s refreshed smartphone range, which includes the standard iPhone 17, the powerful Pro and Pro Max versions, and the new ultra-thin Air.
The iPhone 17 Air features a lightweight titanium frame and a larger 6.5-inch display, yet its body is just 5.6mm thick – significantly slimmer than the current 8.3mm iPhone 16 Pro Max. Despite its svelte design, the Air packs Apple’s latest A19 Pro chip for improved performance and efficiency. It also forgoes a physical SIM card, instead relying on eSIM technology.
At the high-end, the iPhone 17 Pro Max sets a new price record for an iPhone, starting at £1,999 for a 2TB model. This top-tier device boasts a mammoth 6.9-inch screen, a triple 48MP rear camera system with 8x optical zoom, and up to 40 hours of battery life.
Across the new lineup, Apple has introduced several camera upgrades, including simultaneous front and rear video recording, and advanced machine learning-powered features. The standard iPhone 17 model starts at £799, while the Pro and Pro Max versions begin at £1,099 and £1,199 respectively.
Alongside the new iPhones, Apple unveiled refreshed versions of its AirPods Pro and Apple Watch lineups. The AirPods Pro 3 now feature live language translation capabilities, while the Apple Watch Series 11 adds blood pressure monitoring and satellite connectivity on the rugged Ultra model.
The iPhone 17 range will be available for pre-order this Friday, September 15, before hitting stores next week on September 19, alongside the rest of Apple’s new product lineup.
