In a swift response to a violent incident in Urmston, Greater Manchester, police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The arrest comes after a 21-year-old man was shot on Higher Road in Urmston on January 16th and remains in a stable but critical condition in the hospital.

Detective Chief Inspector Justin Bryant stated that the suspect is currently in custody after officers executed five warrants in the early hours of January 19th. DCI Bryant emphasised that the police will not tolerate such levels of violence on the streets, saying, “We have been doing significant work to identify and arrest anyone who we believe is involved in this incident, and we will not stop until we have explored every possible avenue to ascertain why this happened and arrest those responsible.”

Over the past four years, Greater Manchester Police have been able to suppress gun crime and shootings across the region by 52%. However, DCI Bryant stressed that the work is not done, and the police will relentlessly pursue, arrest, and prosecute anyone who thinks they are above the law.

The police have assured the community that this was a targeted attack with no wider threat. DCI Bryant thanked the public for their patience and assistance during the investigation, acknowledging their concerns and reassuring them that neighbourhood policing teams will continue with high-visibility patrols in the local area in the coming days.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime in the Greater Manchester region. The swift action taken by the police in arresting a suspect demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the local community.
