In a harrowing case that has sent shockwaves across the UK, 19-year-old Carlo Tritta has been sentenced to 28 months in prison for grooming a 14-year-old girl he initially contacted through the popular gaming platform Roblox. The victim’s mother has bravely spoken out, urging other parents to vigilantly monitor their children’s online interactions, particularly on platforms perceived as safe for young users.
Grooming Through Gaming
The chilling events began in September 2024 when Tritta, from Bishopstoke, Eastleigh, Hampshire, made contact with the girl, who resides in Manchester. What started as innocuous communication on Roblox quickly escalated as Tritta moved their conversations to other messaging applications, including Snapchat, Discord, and WhatsApp. The exchanges soon became “highly sexualised,” with Tritta sharing explicit images and videos, leading to a deeply troubling situation for the young victim.
The alarm was raised in August 2025 when the girl’s mother discovered the explicit messages on her daughter’s phone. Following this revelation, authorities were alerted, resulting in Tritta’s arrest. However, his apprehension did not deter him; he subsequently breached his bail conditions, attempting to coerce the girl into dropping the case by visiting her home.
Relentless Pursuit and Legal Repercussions
In a dramatic turn of events, Tritta was reported to have trespassed into the victim’s home despite her clear requests for him to leave. During a court hearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, prosecutor Rachel Yarwood detailed how Tritta confronted the girl and even attempted to intimidate her through letters and phone calls, further complicating the already distressing ordeal.
Initially, Tritta faced a 12-month custodial sentence, which was suspended for two years. Just days later, he returned to the victim’s home, leading to a swift re-arrest. Ultimately, he pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including making indecent images of a child—25 of which were classified as Category A—and sexual communication with a minor. He also admitted to charges of witness intimidation and criminal damage.
The victim provided a poignant impact statement, expressing feelings of entrapment and fear, particularly at night. Her mother echoed these sentiments in court, revealing that their home had become a place of anxiety rather than safety.
A Call for Awareness and Action
In defending Tritta, his lawyer, Edward Steele, described his client as being “essentially fixated” on the victim due to his neurodiverse conditions, including Asperger syndrome. He argued that Tritta’s mental health issues may have impaired his understanding of the gravity of his actions. Nevertheless, Recorder Ciaran Rankin emphasised the seriousness of Tritta’s behaviour, stating that immediate imprisonment was warranted due to the risks he posed to children.
After the sentencing, Hampshire Police reiterated the dangers posed by online predators, revealing how Tritta manipulated the victim into believing they were in a romantic relationship through persistent messaging and unsolicited gifts. His campaign of intimidation escalated to the point where he contacted the girl’s mother, even attempting to involve social services against her.
The victim’s mother, who remains anonymous for legal reasons, has since become an advocate for parental vigilance regarding children’s online activities. She shared her anguish over the situation, describing her daughter’s mental health decline, which was characterised by depression and anxiety. She expressed her shock that a platform like Roblox, which she viewed as a harmless children’s game, could be a breeding ground for such predatory behaviour.
Why it Matters
This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers lurking in online environments, especially for children. As gaming platforms become increasingly intertwined with social communication, it is imperative for parents to engage in open dialogues with their children about internet safety. Tritta’s actions not only disrupted the life of a young girl but also instilled fear in her family, highlighting the urgent need for stricter regulations and proactive measures to protect vulnerable users online. Parents must remain vigilant, recognising that what appears to be a harmless game can, in reality, be a gateway for predators to exploit the innocent.
