As the single-engine aircraft went down in nearby bushland, it caught fire almost immediately, creating a substantial blaze approximately 500 metres from the airstrip. Authorities confirmed that the deceased included a 73-year-old pilot from Beenleigh, Queensland, and a male passenger believed to be from Sydney. According to Superintendent Brett Jackson, the impact of the crash was so severe that neither occupant survived.

Fire crews employed water bombers to combat the bushfire that was spreading through adjacent cane paddocks and vegetation. Superintendent Jackson indicated that the pilot’s flight history would be examined as part of the inquiry. Although the flight was reportedly en route to a small town near Tamworth, New South Wales, details regarding the purpose of the trip have yet to be disclosed.
“We are aware the planned flight was to a small town just outside Tamworth, so we have that information,” Jackson stated. “As to the intention behind the trip, I don’t actually have that information; that will form part of the investigation.”
