A devastating road accident late Friday night has left a woman in her thirties dead and three others injured, prompting an extensive emergency response and the closure of a busy bridge in Kent for nearly nine hours.

Fatal Accident at Sheppey Crossing

The incident unfolded around 11.20pm on the A249 near the Sheppey Crossing when a grey Kia collided with a BMW. Despite the swift arrival of emergency services, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a community in shock. The three other individuals involved were rushed to nearby hospitals, with two—a man and a woman—transferred to a London facility where they remain in serious condition. A third man was taken to a local hospital, his injuries yet to be disclosed.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with reports of black smoke rising from the wreckage. Many were instructed to stay inside their vehicles with windows closed while emergency responders worked diligently to manage the situation.

Road Closures and Diversions

As a result of the collision, the A249 was closed overnight, causing significant disruption for drivers heading towards the Isle of Sheppey. Traffic was diverted at Key Street, with motorists redirected via Sheppey Way and the Kingsferry Bridge. The road eventually reopened at around 8am on Saturday, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
