In a devastating turn of events, a five-month-old baby has tragically lost his life in an alleged attack by his mother’s partner. According to the court proceedings, Jensen-Lee Dougal suffered catastrophic injuries, including bleeding in both eyes, brain damage, and multiple fractures, after being “shaken to death” by Thomas Morgan.
The incident occurred on March 30, 2024, when Morgan was left alone with the infant while the baby’s mother, Jordan Dougal, was at work. Prosecutors allege that Morgan, aged 29 from Gorseinon, had been engaged in a heated exchange with an ex-partner via text messages while on babysitting duty, which may have “flipped some kind of switch” and left him in an “angry and aggressive” state.
“With his temper raised and his fuse short, his temper must have snapped and he shook Jensen-Lee with such violence that he caused the devastating injuries that led to Jensen-Lee dying in his mother’s arms,” stated Caroline Kees KC, the prosecutor in the case.
Neighbours reported that Morgan had carried the baby out of the house and told them he was choking, prompting one of them to attempt CPR while another called emergency services. Paramedics found the baby “purple in colour, lifeless and limp” and rushed him to the hospital, but tragically, he did not survive.
Morgan has denied the charges of murder and three counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm. However, the court heard that his account “does not fit with the medical evidence and the degree of force” Jensen-Lee was subjected to, nor the evidence that his injuries were “purposefully inflicted.”
The trial is ongoing, and the community is left grappling with the devastating loss of an innocent life. As the legal proceedings continue, the focus remains on seeking justice and understanding the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome.
