A body has been recovered in the search for 15-year-old Grace Keeling, who went missing earlier this month along with her mother Sarah. The pair were swept into the sea at Withernsea on 2 January.
Authorities confirmed that the body found was that of Grace, bringing a tragic end to the extensive search operation that had been underway since the incident. Sarah Keeling remains missing, and the search continues for her.
Grace and her mother were walking along the seafront in Withernsea when they were caught by a large wave and pulled into the water. Emergency services were called to the scene, but were unable to locate the pair. A major search and rescue mission was launched, involving the coastguard, RNLI, and police.
Sadly, after several days of searching, Grace’s body was discovered by a member of the public on a beach in the local area. While the family are understandably devastated by this outcome, they have expressed gratitude to all those involved in the search efforts.
“We are absolutely heartbroken to have lost our beloved Grace,” said the family in a statement. “She was a bright, caring young woman with her whole life ahead of her. We are grateful to everyone who has supported us during this unbearable time, and we continue to hold out hope that Sarah will be found.”
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of the British coastline, particularly during stormy weather conditions. Locals have called for improved safety measures and warning systems to be implemented in order to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Police have confirmed that a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway. They have urged anyone with information that could assist their inquiries to come forward.
This is an incredibly sad outcome, and our thoughts are with Grace’s family and friends during this difficult time. The search for Sarah Keeling continues, and we can only hope that she is found safe and well.
