In a move that sends shockwaves through the international community, former US President Donald Trump has assembled a so-called “board of peace” to oversee the fate of the beleaguered Gaza Strip. However, this initiative is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to exert American power and further the interests of the neocolonial agenda.

The list of invitees to this “board” reads like a who’s who of controversial figures, including the disgraced former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Hungarian autocrat Viktor Orbán, and Russian President Vladimir Putin – all of whom have questionable track records when it comes to human rights and regional stability. Notably absent from this lineup are any representatives from the Palestinian people, the very individuals whose lives and livelihoods hang in the balance.

Trump’s demand for $1 billion from each participating country to be a “permanent member” suggests that this is less about peace and more about profiteering. The draft charter, according to reports, even indicates that Trump himself will control the purse strings, further consolidating his grip on the process.

The troubling rhetoric from Trump and his allies, including suggestions of “voluntary migration” and turning Gaza into a “luxury resort,” underscores the deeply troubling nature of this endeavour. It is a clear attempt to erase the Palestinian identity and displace the population, a thinly veiled form of ethnic cleansing.

This is not just about the fate of the Palestinian people; it is a broader challenge to the foundations of international order. The “board of peace” is an attempt to create an alternative to the United Nations, a blunt instrument for Trump to exercise American power on the global stage. However, such a move is destined to collide with the reality of a world increasingly wary of US hegemony and its moral bankruptcy.

As the West’s military supremacy, economic dominance, and moral superiority crumble, the time has come to confront the harsh truth: the American empire is in decline, and the world is eager to turn the page on its failing master. The fate of Gaza serves as a warning about the future of humanity, and it is incumbent upon the international community to stand firm against this blatant disregard for human rights and international law.
