In a concerning development, a popular baby formula product has been recalled due to the potential presence of a harmful toxin. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has advised that specific batches of Danone Aptamil First Infant Milk Formula 800g are being recalled.

The recall affects only one batch sold in the UK – batch 31-10-2026 with a best-before date of October 31, 2026, which was on shelves for approximately two weeks in July 2025. The issue is believed to stem from an ingredient, ARA oil, which was manufactured in China and contaminated with cereulide, a toxin produced by certain strains of the bacterium Bacillus cereus.

In a statement, Danone confirmed that it will be withdrawing the affected products from the targeted markets. “Danone never compromises on food safety. Both our routine controls and additional targeted analyses carried out in light of the current situation in the industry confirm Danone’s products are safe and fully compliant with all applicable safety regulations,” the company said.

However, as a precautionary measure and in response to evolving guidance from local food safety authorities, Danone will be withdrawing a “very limited number of specific batches of infant formula product” from the targeted markets.

The FSAI has advised that the implicated products were manufactured in Ireland and exported to several EU countries, the UK, and third countries. Fortunately, the FSAI has confirmed that none of the affected products have been distributed in Ireland.

The FSAI has notified the European Commission of the recall through its Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) to ensure that all affected countries are informed.

Danone has emphasized that its priority is to ensure that parents and healthcare professionals can continue to trust the safety and quality of its infant formula products. The company has encouraged parents with any questions or concerns to contact its careline.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard the well-being of our most vulnerable consumers – our children. As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for parents to heed the advice of the authorities and take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their little ones.
