The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has revealed a revised forecast for the Atlantic hurricane season, indicating a potentially subdued few months ahead. However, the Pacific is expected to experience heightened storm activity, largely due to the ongoing El Niño weather pattern. As we head into August, the implications of these forecasts could affect millions along both coasts.

Atlantic Predictions Lowered

NOAA’s latest outlook suggests the Atlantic could see between two to six hurricanes, with a possibility of zero to two of those being major storms. Already, the Eastern Pacific has recorded seven named storms, including two hurricanes, Fausto and Genevieve. Notably, Genevieve reached Category 5 status, the highest on the scale used by NOAA, bringing severe swells and flooding to Southern California beaches in late July.

The contrasting forecasts highlight the unpredictable nature of weather patterns. While some regions may experience relative calm, others could face significant threats from powerful storms.
