In response to the allegations of non-compliance, representatives from the affected social media giants have asserted their commitment to adhering to Australian regulations. A spokesperson from Meta, which oversees Facebook and Instagram, acknowledged the complexities of accurate age determination and suggested that industry-wide standards for age verification could be the most effective safeguard for minors.
Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, highlighted its efforts by reporting the lockdown of 450,000 accounts, with continuous efforts to enhance compliance.
