In a remarkable display of popularity, the Australian animated series *Bluey* has once again clinched the title of the most streamed show in the United States for 2025, according to Nielsen’s year-end streaming metrics. The show amassed an impressive 45.2 billion minutes of viewing time on Disney+, despite a decrease from the previous year’s figures. *Grey’s Anatomy* held its ground in second place, reflecting a significant trend in audience preferences.

Unwavering Popularity of *Bluey*

For the second consecutive year, *Bluey* has captivated audiences, particularly families, with its charming depiction of a family of blue heelers. The show, which consists of 154 episodes, saw its viewership dip from 55.62 billion minutes in 2024 but remains a formidable force in the streaming sphere. Each episode typically runs under ten minutes, making it an easily digestible choice for both children and their parents.

*Grey’s Anatomy*, the enduring medical drama, ranked second with 40.9 billion minutes watched, showcasing the appeal of long-running series with extensive back catalogues. The show, comprising 455 episodes, continues to attract viewers who are drawn to its intricate storylines and character development.

The Streaming Landscape: A Shift Towards Library Series

The dominance of *Bluey* and *Grey’s Anatomy* signals a broader trend towards “library series” in the streaming world. Nine out of the ten top shows on Nielsen’s chart are established series with rich archives, including long-time favourites like *Family Guy*, *NCIS*, and *Law & Order: Special Victims Unit*. This trend highlights a growing preference among viewers for familiar content over newer, original programming.

In fact, the only original series to break into the top ten was *Stranger Things*, which garnered just under 40 billion minutes of viewing time. Its recent fifth and final season, released in late 2025, provided a significant boost, although its final episode, which aired on New Year’s Eve, fell outside the Nielsen reporting period.

The Future of *Bluey*

While *Bluey* continues to thrive, questions loom over its future. The creator, Joe Brumm, announced plans to step back from the series, although he will take the helm for a full-length movie adaptation set for release in 2027. The series concluded its third season with a special episode titled *The Sign* on 14 April 2024, followed by a surprise episode shortly thereafter.

Despite uncertainties around a fourth season, producer Sam Moor assured fans that there are more surprises ahead, stating in an interview with BBC Radio 4’s *Today* programme, “It is not the end for *Bluey*. I’m sure we have many more surprises in store for you.” Additionally, a spokesperson for ABC confirmed that there are no current plans to conclude the beloved series.

Why it Matters

The continued success of *Bluey* not only underscores the show’s cultural significance but also reflects changing consumer behaviour in the streaming market. As audiences gravitate towards well-established series, the landscape is shifting, with implications for both original content creators and traditional programming. The engagement levels seen in *Bluey* and *Grey’s Anatomy* illustrate a demand for familiarity and nostalgia in entertainment, shaping future content strategies across platforms.
