The disruptions, expected to occur from June 11 to July 19, will affect postal services in areas surrounding FIFA fan festivals and match venues.
Service Interruptions in Toronto
In Toronto, Canada Post has identified several neighbourhoods that may experience delays, particularly those with postal codes M6K, M6J, and M5V. The city’s Exhibition Place will host six matches, including Canada’s opening game, while fan festivals will be held at Fort York and the Bentway.
Customers in the affected areas can anticipate that any undelivered mail will be securely held at the Canada Post depot, with a commitment to prioritise its delivery on the next business day. Furthermore, post offices located at 390 Queens Quay W., 761 King St. W., 119 Ossington Ave., and 1093 Queen St. W. may encounter temporary delays in mail processing and delivery on certain match days.
Canada Post also announced that street letterboxes within the event zones will be removed until July 22. However, residents can still post items at the Queen St. West location, as pickups will not take place near the FIFA Fan Festival or Toronto Stadium on match days. The six Toronto matches are scheduled for June 12, 17, 20, 23, 26, and July 2.
Vancouver’s Unique Challenges
In Vancouver, Canada Post anticipates a different level of disruption. The postal service plans to clear and seal several mailboxes in proximity to the fan festival and BC Place stadium before each match day, which includes weekends. Customers will be able to access these mailboxes again the following business day.
Despite these precautions, Canada Post reassured customers with postal codes beginning with V6A, V6B, and V6Z that they should not experience any interruptions in mail delivery. Similarly, services for commercial clients near the event locations will remain unaffected. The post offices at 238 Robson St., 1173 – 88 West Pender St., and 495 West Georgia St. will continue to operate as normal. Vancouver will host seven matches, taking place on June 13, 18, 21, 24, 26, July 2, and July 7.
