As the FIFA World Cup approaches, Canada Post has issued a notice regarding potential service interruptions in Vancouver and Toronto. The postal service has indicated that these disruptions will take place throughout the tournament, which runs from June 11 to July 19, specifically affecting areas surrounding FIFA fan festivals and stadiums.
Service Interruptions in Toronto
Toronto will play a pivotal role in the upcoming tournament, with six matches scheduled at the Toronto Stadium located at Exhibition Place. Notably, this includes Canada’s first match on June 12. In light of this, Canada Post has identified that postal codes M6K, M6J, and M5V may experience delays or interruptions in mail delivery.
Canada Post has assured residents that any undelivered mail will be securely held at their depot and prioritised for delivery on the next business day. Customers should also be aware that several post offices in the region, including locations at 390 Queens Quay W., 761 King St. W., 119 Ossington Ave., and 1093 Queen St. W., might face temporary delays in processing and delivery on match days.
Additionally, in a bid to streamline operations, the postal service will be removing street letter boxes within the vicinity of the events until July 22. Postings can still be made at the aforementioned post office on Queen St. W., but pickups near the FIFA Fan Festival and the Toronto Stadium will be suspended on match days.
Vancouver’s Preparations
Vancouver is set to host a total of seven matches at BC Place, occurring on June 13, June 18, June 21, June 24, June 26, July 2, and July 7. Canada Post has indicated that it anticipates a different level of disruption in this city, planning to clear and seal several mailboxes before each match day, including weekends. However, these mailboxes will be accessible again for mailing the following business day.
Despite these changes, Canada Post has stated that it does not expect service interruptions for customers with postal codes beginning with V6A, V6B, and V6Z. Moreover, commercial customers near the event locations will not see any disruption in their services. The post offices located at 238 Robson St., 1173 – 88 West Pender St., and 495 West Georgia St. will continue to operate as normal.
