As the FIFA World Cup approaches, Canada Post has issued a notice regarding potential “minor service interruptions” in Vancouver and Toronto, coinciding with the tournament’s schedule from June 11 to July 19. The national postal service anticipates these disruptions will primarily affect postal services in areas surrounding fan festivals and match venues.
Anticipated Service Interruptions in Toronto
In Toronto, where the Exhibition Place Stadium will host six matches, including Canada’s opening game on June 12, Canada Post has identified specific postal codes likely to experience delays. Residents in the M6K, M6J, and M5V areas should prepare for possible interruptions in mail delivery during this bustling event period.
“Any mail not delivered will be securely held at the Canada Post depot and prioritised for delivery on the next business day,” a spokesperson for Canada Post stated. Additionally, post offices located at 390 Queens Quay W., 761 King St. W., 119 Ossington Ave., and 1093 Queen St. W. may also face temporary processing delays on match days.
To further accommodate the influx of soccer fans, Canada Post will suspend the use of street letter boxes in proximity to the events until July 22. Residents are advised to utilise the post office at 1093 Queen St. W. for mailing needs during this period.
Vancouver’s Preparations for the World Cup
Meanwhile, Canada Post expects different challenges in Vancouver, where BC Place will host seven matches, including key fixtures on June 13, June 18, June 21, June 24, June 26, July 2, and July 7. The national postal service will seal several mailboxes near the fan festival and stadium on match days to ensure safety and security, with plans for them to reopen for use the next business day.
“Customers with postal codes starting with V6A, V6B, and V6Z should not encounter any service interruptions,” Canada Post reassured. Furthermore, services for commercial customers in nearby areas will remain unaffected, and the post offices at 238 Robson St., 1173 – 88 West Pender St., and 495 West Georgia St. will continue regular operations.
