Isaac Bogoch, an infectious disease specialist at the University of Toronto, highlights the importance of a holistic approach: “It’s a whole of government and a whole of society response. There’s not one lab that’s going to do it.” The ongoing work of the Ramp Up initiative exemplifies this philosophy, as it seeks to integrate insights from various fields, including transportation and public health infrastructure, to create a more resilient system.

Investing in the Future

Health Canada has committed significant resources to bolster the nation’s pandemic response capabilities, investing over $2.5 billion in vaccine and biomanufacturing projects since 2020.
