A recent spate of brutal attacks by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an armed militia with ties to the Islamic State, has plunged the city of Beni in North Kivu province into further turmoil. Over 30 individuals have been reported killed in a series of assaults that have not only claimed innocent lives but also severely hampered efforts to combat an ongoing Ebola outbreak. With the situation deteriorating, the authorities are grappling with the dual crisis of violence and disease.

In a chilling series of raids on the early hours of Wednesday, armed militants descended upon the villages of Matété, Mamuli, and Kitoho, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 people. Eyewitness accounts paint a harrowing picture of the night, as the ADF set homes ablaze and kidnapped civilians, leaving communities in disarray. Isaac Kavalami, a local leader, confirmed the provisional death toll, underscoring the chaos wrought by the militia.
