This trend follows a particularly high-profile attack on Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) last year, which resulted in a catastrophic production halt for weeks.
The report highlights that many manufacturers are not adequately prepared for such attacks, with only half of the surveyed companies having established a response plan. The increasing connectivity of manufacturing systems, while beneficial for productivity, has inadvertently expanded the attack surface for potential hackers. As manufacturers optimise their operations, they must also confront the stark reality that this interconnectedness can lead to more extensive damage if their systems are compromised.
