During his testimony before the Senate appropriations committee on 10 February, Lutnick acknowledged the 2012 lunch, explaining that it occurred whilst he was on a family vacation. “I did have lunch with him, as I was on a boat going across,” Lutnick stated. Nonetheless, he maintained that he had “barely had anything to do” with Epstein, a claim that has now come under scrutiny.

One of the more perplexing aspects of Lutnick’s testimony was his inability to recall details from his visit to Epstein’s island. Democratic representative Suhas Subramanyam conveyed his frustration, noting that Lutnick claimed he could remember nothing about the visit, including the reasons for being there or anything he might have witnessed.
