The family’s attorney has voiced serious concerns about the legality of this swift action, which has drawn significant public scrutiny and sparked an emergency motion to prevent their deportation.
Family’s Troubled Journey
Hayam El Gamal, along with her five children, was taken back into ICE custody shortly after being released from a detention centre in Dilley, Texas. Their lawyer, Eric Lee, reported that the family was en route to Egypt on a private jet in Denver when they were detained due to an alleged violation of a court order. “This is a very live situation – an absolutely brazen violation of separation of powers,” remarked Lee, highlighting the contentious nature of the family’s legal battle.
