Minister of Women and Gender Equality, Rechie Valdez, made the announcement at Cafe Noir, a woman-owned establishment in downtown Lethbridge, highlighting the importance of supporting female business leaders in creating jobs and strengthening communities across the nation.

Speaking at the event, Amber Morrow, the owner of Cafe Noir, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “It’s a big deal. I think women in business have been struggling to get capital and funding for a long time.” Morrow emphasised that many aspiring entrepreneurs encounter significant obstacles when launching their ventures. The targeted funding and support for women entrepreneurs is seen as a monumental step towards addressing these long-standing challenges.
Minister Valdez explained that this funding extends the momentum of previous initiatives launched in 2018, saying, “This strategy, it started in 2018, and this is funding that will help continue the momentum from our first initiation.” The government aims to build on the success of past programmes to further empower women in the business sector.

The federal government reports that its strategies have successfully supported over 500,000 women entrepreneurs since inception. This latest funding includes vital resources for organisations that manage the Women’s Entrepreneurship Loan Fund, which provides loans of up to $50,000 for female entrepreneurs across Canada. To date, more than 1,600 loans have been issued through this programme, enabling women to secure the financial backing necessary to establish and expand their enterprises.
Additionally, the investment reinforces the WES Ecosystem Fund, which is designed to assist organisations in offering business training, advisory services, and mentorship programmes.
