FDA Clarifies False Positive Test Result
On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that a laboratory test had mistakenly identified cyclospora in a lettuce sample from Taylor Farms. The agency had initially reported the finding on Saturday, only to retract it the following day upon realising the result was not accurate.
The FDA’s acting food chief, Donald Prater, stated that the traceback investigation continues to focus on shredded iceberg lettuce originating from Taylor Farms’ operations in central Mexico. This is part of a broader investigation into rising cases of cyclospora, which have been linked to lettuce served at Taco Bell restaurants across five states.
In a significant move, Taylor Farms announced a recall of 25 shredded lettuce and salad mix products sold under various brand names over the weekend. These products are widely distributed and used by multiple food chains and suppliers throughout the United States.

Kyle Diamantas, acting commissioner of the FDA, emphasised the urgency of the situation, noting that new cases continue to emerge, some as recently as last week. He stated, “It’s imperative for us to take action to ensure that contaminated product is not making its way to the market.”
