Kelsey Pope, another local, detailed her experience while working from home, initially attributing the shaking to her dog before realising it was an earthquake. “My whole apartment building was swaying, and since I’m on the third floor, I honestly thought it might collapse,” she said. In Mexico, reports indicated that the earthquake triggered evacuations in tourist hotspots such as Cancún, with precautionary measures taken in surrounding areas like Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Despite the widespread concern, the US Tsunami Warning Center quickly reassured the public that there was no tsunami threat to the eastern United States or coastal Canada.
