With her studies at an agricultural college on hold during the 2020 lockdown, Jacka transformed her family’s garden in Cape Town into a vineyard, unleashing her ambition and creativity. A Spark of Inspiration
As many found themselves confined to their homes during the lockdown, Jacka felt a mix of restlessness and inspiration. The 27-year-old, who had left a demanding job in the culinary world to pursue viticulture studies in Stellenbosch, was determined to make the most of her unexpected free time. Gazing out of her window at her parents’ home in Noordhoek, she envisioned rows of grapevines where there were none.
“It was a small spark,” she recalled, propelling her to discuss the possibility of creating a vineyard with her family. This idea quickly transformed into action, requiring extensive groundwork, literally and figuratively. Jacka and her parents cleared the area, sourced over a thousand vines, and planted them with care, all while navigating the quirks of family dynamics and the curiosity of a miniature horse named Spirit.

Her Alinea wine brand has expanded to include five distinct offerings, with grapes sourced from other renowned winemaking regions around Cape Town. Each bottle reflects her passion and dedication, showcasing the rich viticultural heritage of the area.
Jacka continues to wear many hats within her business, juggling roles as picker, stomper, labeller, accountant, and even delivery driver. Her commitment to quality and authenticity is evident in every aspect of her winemaking process. “I’m looking forward to the next vintage,” she expressed enthusiastically, indicating that her journey is far from over.
