Parul Koul, a Google software engineer and president of the union, voiced the sentiments of the group outside Google’s Mountain View headquarters, asserting, “These layoffs and cuts are not difficult decisions, but simply profit being put over the people that make this company run.”
Despite the earnestness of the workers’ petition, their attempts to engage with Google’s leadership were met with silence, with Koul reporting that they were “greeted with closed doors” upon delivering the document. Nonetheless, a staff member assured them that the petition would reach Pichai directly. Koul emphasised the significance of this petition, describing it as the “largest piece of employee feedback” on job security Google has ever received.
