In a troubling development for the Green Party, a local election candidate has been arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred through antisemitic social media content. The Metropolitan Police detained the individual along with another woman on Thursday morning, following reports that surfaced earlier this week.

Details of the Arrest

The arrests occurred after the police received a complaint on Tuesday regarding offensive posts that allegedly include inflammatory statements. One of the posts in question purportedly stated, “ramming a synagogue isn’t anti-Semitism, it’s revenge,” while another, now deleted, suggested that the government was disproportionately influenced by “Zionist Jews.” Additional content reportedly featured a disturbing image of a serpent adorned with the Star of David, depicted as constricting the globe.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the two women, aged 57 and 54, were taken into custody under the Public Order Act 1986, which addresses offences related to stirring up racial hatred. As of now, they remain in police custody, and the Green Party has stated that it will not comment further
