Conducted by Philips, the Future Health Index surveyed over 2,000 healthcare professionals and 20,000 patients across ten countries, revealing a reliance on personal AI tools among clinicians as hospitals struggle to provide adequate training and resources.
The Paradox of AI in Healthcare
The promise of AI in healthcare is immense. From streamlining administrative tasks to enhancing diagnostic accuracy, AI is seen as a transformative force. It assists clinicians in various ways, including transcribing clinical notes, scheduling appointments, and even flagging potentially dangerous drug interactions. The survey found that nearly half of the healthcare professionals (46%) reported saving an average of 132 hours annually due to AI’s capabilities, with 50% noting an increased ability to attend to more patients.
Despite these advancements, the integration of AI within healthcare organisations is far from seamless. The study revealed that many clinicians feel compelled to turn to personal AI solutions when their institutions fall short. A staggering 64% reported using personal tools, highlighting a significant gap between the technology available and the support provided by healthcare organisations.

A notable 70% of professionals indicated that training was either unavailable or insufficient. Nearly 90% of respondents stressed the importance of maintaining a human touch as AI technologies evolve. Furthermore, 86% insisted that all outputs generated by AI must undergo human evaluation before implementation.
