The phenomenon, known as a heat dome, occurs when a high-pressure system traps heat in a region, causing temperatures to soar. Areas in the southwestern desert may see record-breaking temperatures, with some locations potentially hitting an astonishing 120°F (48°C).
Cities like Denver could face unprecedented heat, with forecasts suggesting that the current heat dome may break longstanding records. In western Nebraska, temperatures are anticipated to reach a staggering 108°F (42°C) over the weekend, prompting warnings for residents to stay vigilant.
