In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the United States Justice Department has apprehended Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood al-Saadi, an Iraqi national accused of orchestrating nearly 20 terrorist attacks and plots across the US and Europe. The charges against al-Saadi, which include conspiracy to support foreign terrorist organisations and attempted bombings, have heightened concerns, particularly within the Jewish community in the UK, where recent assaults on community centres and synagogues have stirred alarm.

Among the charges he faces are conspiracy to provide material support to foreign terrorist entities and conspiracy to bomb public places. This operation marks a critical step in addressing the challenges posed by international terrorism on American soil.

According to the Justice Department’s complaint, al-Saadi maintained close ties with high-profile figures in Iranian military operations, including the late Qassem Suleimani, a former commander of the IRGC who was killed in a US drone strike in January 2020. Al-Saadi is alleged to have collaborated with Suleimani in establishing networks aimed at executing covert attacks throughout the Middle
