Over the course of two and a half years, Rhossi underwent a remarkable transformation, growing from a mere 1 kilogram to a healthy 21 kilograms. Davidson humourously recounted his experiences at the chemist, where he needed to explain the unusual bulk purchase of personal care items, drawing curious looks from staff and shoppers alike.

Frankie Hobro, the zoo’s owner, expressed the mixed feelings that accompany such a significant milestone. “Cold-stunned turtles typically do not survive without specialist intervention. We were uncertain of Rhossi’s future in those first few weeks. It’s incredibly emotional because this is what we’ve been working toward for over two years,” she said.
While the staff are eager to see Rhossi return to the wild, they are also aware of the personal bond they have formed with him during his recovery. “We’ve gotten to know his individual quirks, and soon, a little piece of us will be swimming off into the Caribbean Sea, never to be seen again,” Hobro reflected.
