In a devastating escalation of violence, Mali’s Defence Minister Sadio Camara was killed in a suicide bombing at his Kati residence on Saturday. This tragic event occurred during a series of coordinated assaults by insurgent groups, including the West African affiliate of al-Qaida, known as Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM). The attacks mark a significant uptick in insurgent activity and raise serious questions about the stability of the Malian government.
