Current Fire Situations: Stewart Trail and Flanders Fires
Among the most significant fires currently threatening the area are the Stewart Trail fire, located near Two Harbors, and the Flanders fire in Crow Wing County. The Stewart Trail fire has already scorched approximately 355 acres (145 hectares), while the Flanders fire has expanded to an alarming 1,200 acres.
As of Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota Incident Command System (MNICS) reported that the Stewart Trail fire was 30% contained. However, the situation remains precarious, with multiple new outbreaks occurring under the dry, windy conditions.
Mandatory evacuations are in effect for homes and businesses northeast of Two Harbors, as State Highway 61 has been closed between Two Harbors and Silver Bay due to the advancing flames.

Lake County Sheriff Nathan Stadler provided an update on Saturday evening, revealing that preliminary assessments indicated the destruction of 34 structures, including eight primary residences. “We know that this situation is stressful for residents, visitors, everybody involved, and our teams are working around the clock to keep people safe,” Stadler said at a press conference. He emphasised the tireless efforts of firefighting crews, who are striving to bring the fires under control to allow displaced residents to return home.
