Stan Cho, the former Ontario Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming, has stepped down from Premier Doug Ford’s cabinet following revelations of significant hotel expenses. Stan did the right thing,” he asserted. “They’re paying back every single penny.”
In his resignation letter, Cho acknowledged that while he believed his expenses were justified based on the guidelines, he ultimately recognised his error. “I am taking full responsibility, as I don’t want to be a distraction from our plan to grow the economy, keep families safe, and build the province,” he stated. The fallout from Cho’s resignation has prompted sharp criticism from opposition leaders. Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles stated that Cho’s departure fails to explain the extent of his hotel charges, labelling his actions as emblematic of a larger problem within the Ford government. “This minister was riding high, living the suite life on the taxpayer dime,” Stiles remarked, questioning whether the Premier still had confidence in other members accumulating similar expenses.
