The ongoing drought gripping the American West has reached alarming new heights, with Lake Powell—the nation’s second-largest reservoir—plummeting to its lowest recorded level. As of Sunday, August 16, 2026, the lake’s elevation registered at a staggering 3,519.8 feet, surpassing its previous low set just four months prior.
