In a remarkable medical breakthrough, Britany Fecteau, a 29-year-old from Montreal, has become the first Canadian to undergo a pioneering procedure known as uterine transposition. Following her radiation treatment, a secondary surgery in late April successfully restored her reproductive organs to their original position.

Then there’s no way back.”

The technique, first pioneered by Brazilian surgeon Dr. Reitan Ribeiro in 2017, has been successfully performed in over 45 cases worldwide, with at least six patients going on to have children. He explained, “If the ovaries could be moved, and the uterus detached from its usual home, why not do both to preserve fertility?”

Fecteau’s decision to share her story publicly stems from a desire to assist others who may find themselves in similar situations. “I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone,” she said, inviting others to reach out with questions should they need support. While she is not actively planning for more children at this moment, she expresses deep gratitude for the options that now lie ahead. “My son is the most wonderful thing I’ve ever had,” she reflected, her voice filled with emotion. “And I will be grateful to Dr. Ribeiro for the rest of my life for preventing me from going through menopause at age 29.”
