The primary set features eight iconic jets, including the Gloster Meteor F1, the Royal Air Force’s inaugural jet fighter, and the contemporary Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II. The newly unveiled stamp collection showcases a total of eight military jet aircraft that have played crucial roles in various conflicts throughout British history. Among the featured aircraft are the Avro Vulcan B2, Gloster Javelin FAW9, Hawker Siddeley Hawk T1, Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer S2B, De Havilland Vampire FB5, and the Panavia Tornado GR4.
These aircraft have been central to the UK’s military operations, participating in notable engagements from World War II through to the Falklands Conflict, and more recent deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. It marks 50 years since the Hawker Siddeley Hawk entered service, 70 years for both the Gloster Javelin and the Avro Vulcan, and 80 years since the introduction of the de Havilland Vampire. Additionally, a special miniature sheet of four stamps pays tribute to Sir Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine, marking the 30th anniversary of his passing. Whittle’s groundbreaking work laid the foundation for modern jet propulsion, revolutionising air travel and military aviation alike.

Ian Whittle, son of the late Sir Frank Whittle, expressed his delight at the Royal Mail’s recognition of his father’s contributions. He stated, “I am delighted that Royal Mail is celebrating this extraordinary legacy with a set of stamps. The stamps will be available for general purchase starting July 30, with a complete presentation pack of all 12 stamps priced at £22.50.
