Alarmingly, some interactions appeared to involve proprietary research, especially within the healthcare sector, suggesting that sensitive data may have been jeopardised.

This incident echoes a similar situation that occurred last year with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, where user chat logs were inadvertently made public. Following that breach, OpenAI implemented stricter controls to safeguard user privacy. Additionally, Grok, the AI chatbot integrated into X, faced a substantial data exposure issue as well, with hundreds of thousands of chat logs becoming available online.
Google, when approached for comment regarding the Claude chat logs, clarified that they do not control what users choose to make public. A spokesperson stated, “We give site owners clear controls to decide whether pages can be crawled or indexed,” emphasising the need for website operators to take proactive measures in managing their data.
