In a disturbing incident, a woman has reported feeling “violated” after discovering a hidden camera inside a toilet cubicle at a restaurant in Leicester, UK. The 32-year-old mother-of-one was on a date night with her partner at the Thai restaurant Giggling Squid when she made the unsettling discovery.

The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said she “felt sick” after finding the live-streaming camera hidden underneath the toilet seat. She described seeing a “black round dot” that seemed out of place, and upon closer inspection, discovered wires and a battery pack concealed with kitchen roll.

“The thought of someone watching, especially in such a private area, scared me,” the victim told the BBC. “It’s a really uncomfortable thing to think about, that somebody’s got that now. There must have been so many people visiting that toilet.”

Leicester police were notified the following day and have launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far. A spokesperson for the force said officers attended the scene and recovered the device for examination, while also speaking to staff to try and identify the person responsible.

Giggling Squid, the company that runs the restaurant, confirmed that a customer had reported a “suspicious object” to the staff, who promptly informed the police. The restaurant said it is “co-operating fully” with the ongoing investigation.

The victim hopes that by sharing her experience, it will encourage others to be more vigilant in public spaces, even in places they may not expect to be unsafe. “When I’ve spoken to people about it, it’s not something that anybody’s ever thought about, nobody looks at under the toilet seats or has a little scan before they use the toilet,” she said.

This disturbing incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of personal privacy and the need for heightened awareness in seemingly safe environments. As the investigation continues, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
