As anticipation builds for the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, a thrilling closing ceremony is poised to captivate audiences before the decisive match. Scheduled for Sunday, July 19, at the New York New Jersey Stadium, the event will showcase an array of international stars, including Hollywood icon Tom Cruise. This celebration will honour the remarkable journey of 48 competing teams across three host nations and 16 cities throughout the tournament.
A Stellar Line-Up of Performers
The pregame festivities promise a dazzling array of performances, featuring acclaimed artists from around the globe. Among them, Italian singer-songwriter Laura Pausini and Pussycat Dolls member Nicole Scherzinger will take to the stage alongside English pop sensation Robbie Williams. Additionally, the popular YouTube star and streamer IShowSpeed is set to join the festivities, ensuring a lively atmosphere.
Adding to the emotional weight of the occasion, EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson will deliver a heartfelt rendition of the United States national anthem, setting the tone for the grand finale. “Echoing the spirit of the opening ceremonies, which welcomed the world to the greatest stage in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, the closing ceremony will bring the FIFA World Cup 2026 full circle through music, culture, and football,” stated Heimo Schirgi, FIFA World Cup 2026’s Chief Operating Officer.
Halftime Extravaganza Features Global Icons
Earlier this month, FIFA also revealed that Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber will headline the historic halftime show during the final match. Joining him are global music icons Madonna, Shakira, and BTS, making this halftime performance a landmark event in World Cup history. The show aims to blend music and sport while supporting the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which seeks to provide educational opportunities to children worldwide.
The 11-minute spectacle will also feature Nigerian sensation Burna Boy, renowned Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and the Webby Award-winning PS 22 Chorus. “When it comes to what the world needs, there is nothing more important than education. We are proud to have Justin Bieber joining Madonna, Shakira, and BTS to co-headline the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund,” commented FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
A Commitment to Education and Opportunity
FIFA has outlined ambitious goals for the event, aiming to raise US$100 million for the Global Citizen Education Fund. Infantino highlighted that $1 from every ticket sold for the World Cup will directly contribute to this initiative, emphasising the importance of providing young people with access to education and football opportunities. “Every child should have the opportunity to dream, and together we can help make that possible,” he affirmed.
Shakira, a familiar face at World Cup events, previously performed at the opening ceremony in South Africa in 2010. She has recently released the World Cup’s official song, “Dai Dai,” featuring Burna Boy, further solidifying her connection to the tournament’s legacy.
Why it Matters
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is not just about football; it is a global celebration that unites cultures through music and sport. The closing ceremony, with its impressive line-up of performers and commitment to education, exemplifies the event’s broader mission of fostering global unity and opportunity for future generations. As the world tunes in, the impact of this tournament will resonate far beyond the pitch, showcasing the power of sport to inspire change and create lasting legacies.
